Polish President Awards Center for Entrepreneurship Development
Poland, Warsaw, December 2016: On 9th December, Polish President Andrzej Duda awarded the Center for Entrepreneurship Development in Sandomierz with the "For the Common Good" prize. The President's awards were given to individuals and institutions pursuing projects based on civic engagement and providing assistance to others who contribute to building civic society.
For the last 5 years, the Center for Entrepreneurship Development in Sandomierz has been implementing the Regional Development Programme The Swiętorkzyskie Mountains – Our Future supported by Switzerland under the Swiss Contribution. The programme supports local socio-economic development in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains region by creating new jobs outside the farming sector and securing alternative sources of income for rural people. As a result, the tourism offer has been improved in order to generate income and economic perspectives for future generations.

Other news about the projects
Poland, Siemianówka, November 2015 – The biggest cigarette smuggling attempt in the history of the Polish-Belarusian border crossing Siemianówka has been foiled. The contraband was hidden under cement which was to be transported in wagons across the border to Poland. By using a video endoscope, which is a cable with a camera on the end used mainly in surgery, 90,000 packets of cigarettes could be taken out of the black market. The video endoscope was purchased as part of the project to modernise the Siemianówka border crossing. The seized goods have an estimated market value of about PLN 1 million (approximately CHF 250,000).
Poland, Połowce, 04.09.2015 – Celebrations to inaugurate the modernised border crossing in Połowce. The infrastructure at the Polish border crossings on the border with Belarus was outdated and did not meet EU standards. Given that an efficient, well functioning customs clearance and border control at the Schengen border is also pertinent to Switzerland's security, part of the Swiss enlargement contribution has been invested in modernising infrastructure, contemporary facilities and equipment.
Poland, 10–12.04.2015 – A project funded by the Swiss enlargement contribution wins first prize in the contest for the most interesting standard stand at the International Rural Tourism and Agrotourism Fair
AGROTRAVEL 2015. The project promotes local enterprises and tourism in the economically weak Lublin region, focusing on culture, history, art and local crafts.
Bern, 8–9.06.2015 – A delegation from the Polish Office for Foreigners travels to Switzerland and visits the Federal Office of Public Health, the State Secretariat for Migration, and the Swiss Border Guard. The visit centres on sharing knowledge and experience about epidemiological safety, and medical services for asylum-seekers. Switzerland co-finances a border security project in Poland, and supports Polish asylum centres, with a particular emphasis on medical examinations for asylum-seekers.
