Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics will soon permeate every domain in our society and every aspect in our daily life, bringing new relationships between humans and technology. The advance of AI in domains such as autonomous driving, facial identification or healthcare and the developments of humanoid robots with autonomous behaviours and maybe soon emotions bring key interrogations and ethical issues for research, economic implementation or societal impact of AI and robotics.

The Embassy is pleased to present “The Chinese Lives of Uli Sigg” on Thursday, 28th of February at 8pm at The Projector. A documentary about Uli Sigg as entrepreneur, Swiss Ambassador in China and art collector in the tense socio-political context of China's ongoing transformation since the 1970s. Uli Sigg not only had an impact on China's shift in economic policy after the Mao Zedong’s era; he has also established the world's most significant collection of contemporary Chinese art. The majority of this collection will be transferred to Hong Kong's M+ museum, due to open soon. There will be a post-show talk between Uli Sigg and Michael Schindhelm and a Q&A.

200 Years of Silent Night

This Christmas carol is known throughout the world: on Christmas Eve “Silent night, holy night” rings out around the world in many different languages. Created 200 years ago in Austria when a priest from Salzburg, Joseph Mohr, and Franz Xaver Gruber, a teacher from Upper Austria, sang the song for the very first time at the St. Nikola Church in Oberndorf near Salzburg. Today, the song is performed in over 300 languages and dialects. Spend an unforgettable evening and be uplifted by the 200th Anniversary celebration that will honour this much-loved Christmas song at Silent Night on Sunday, 2 December 2018 at 7:00pm, Church of Saint Teresa, 510 Kampong Bahru Road Singapore 099446. The German Film Festival 2018, “The Little Witch” (Die kleine Hexe)

The Embassy is pleased to present, in partnership with the German Film Festival 2018, “The Little Witch” based on the famous novel “Die kleine Hexe” by Otfied Preussler at Golden Village, Plaza Singapura Sundays, 28th of October and 4th of November . A co-production between Switzerland and Germany and directed by Swiss born Michael Schaerer, this children’s movie was just release in January 2018. “The Little Witch” received Best Cinematography award at the Bavarian Film Awards 2018. The little witch (Karoline Herfurth) has a big problem: She is only 127 years old and therefore much too young to dance with the other witches on Walpurgis Night. That’s why she secretly sneaks up on this most important of all witch festivals. As punishment, she must memorise all the spells from the great magic book within a year and show everyone that she is a good witch. But diligence and ambition are not really her strengths and, on top of that, the evil witch Rumpumpel (Suzanne von Borsody) is in her way. Rating: PG Language: German with English subtitle

Swiss documentary “Mario Botta. The Space Beyond” (Mario Botta. Oltre lo Spazo) directed by Loretta Dapozzo and Michèle Volontè will be presented a second time at The Projector on 28th of October at 8pm. In this film, internationally acclaimed Swiss architect Mario Botta tries to understand why a globalized society feels the urge to build sacred spaces. At 75, Botta is one of the few architects who has built places of prayer for the three main monotheistic religions. After building many churches, chapels and a synagogue, he is now building a mosque in China. Rating: PG Language: Italian with English subtitle

Switzerland-Singapore Tennis Festival 2018

Following the success and the enthusiasm for the Switzerland-Singapore Football Festival, the Embassy of Switzerland and Sport Singapore are jointly organizing the Switzerland-Singapore Tennis Festival on Saturday, 27th of October 2018 at the Swiss Club. The Festival features a competitive Youth Mixed Team Tennis Competition (Team- Event). Teams will be split into two groups of five teams and play a minimum of four ties in the round-robin group stage. The top two teams in each group will move into the playoffs. Two Doubles Matches will be played in each tie. Point system: One Super Tie Break set per Doubles Match – Play to 10 points (Win by 2 points). Throughout the morning, we will also offer Mini-Tennis and for the Youth Mixed Tennis teams Paddle Clinics sponsored by 40XV.

Concert of Swiss Singer Veronica Fusaro at the Ambassador’s Residence

Swiss singer/songwriter Veronica Fusaro was in Singapore and Ambassador Filliez hosted a concert at his Residence the first weekend of September. The talented singer won “demo of the year” in the national M4Music competition. She was also named “Best Talent” by Swiss German television network SRF, which in turn earned her a nomination for the Swiss Music Awards. Veronica Fusaro’s latest LP is called “ICE COLD” and her voice, when mixed with heartbeat and dub rhythms, create songs that are unmistakable catchy with international appeal.
