Registration
Swiss citizens who are planning to stay more than 12 months in Ethiopia, Djibouti or South Sudan and have reported their absence to the authorities of their last place of residence in Switzerland are required to register with the Embassy of Switzerland in Addis Ababa.
To register please bring or send the completed and signed “Application for Registration” form together with your certificate of origin (“Heimatschein / Certificat d’origin”) and your Swiss passport and your Swiss ID card to the Embassy of Switzerland in Addis Ababa.
Alternatively, for swiss citizens living in South Sudan, there is the possibility to drop these documents at the Swiss Cooperation Office in Juba, South Sudan, from where they will be sent to the Embassy of Switzerland in Addis Ababa.
Short stays abroad of less than 12 months may be announced to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs through its portal "itineris" which would help the FDFA to locate and contact you rapidly in a crisis situation:
