Transforming Food Systems

The UN Food Systems Summit will take place in autumn 2021 (FSS21). It will be a catalytic moment for public mobilization and actionable commitments to invest in diverse ways in the transformation of food systems towards more sustainability, healthy nutrition, and resilience against climate change and epidemics. Switzerland’s contribution to the FSS21 preparatory process is support to a) a Swiss Sustainable Food Systems Event in Rome; b) the WEF Food Systems Initiative (FSI), c) the FSS21 Special Envoy Secretariat and d) enhanced communication.

Participation des femmes dans le processus de paix, de sécurité et de relèvement au Mali

Au Mali, les crises ont fortement impacté les femmes, mais celles-ci n’ont pas été incluses dans les efforts vers une réconciliation nationale. Le Plan d’Action National sur les femmes, la paix et la sécurité vise à renverser cette tendance. Un soutien à sa mise en œuvre par l’intermédiaire d’ONU Femmes et de Women in Law & Development Africa (WILDAF) favorisera une participation réelle des femmes dans les négociations de paix et la reconstruction post-conflit, le respect de leurs droits, et contribuera à la stabilisation du pays et de la sous-région.

NRGI, Advancing good governance in resource-rich countries

500 million people live in extreme poverty in resource-rich developing countries. In many countries, the governance of the sector remains weak, leading to high risks of corruption and public revenue loss. NRGI combines evidence-based analytical work with targeted local and global engagement with civil society actors, governments and private companies to improve the accountability of the extractive sector. With its support, Switzerland aims to ensure that people living in developing countries truly benefit from their natural resources.

Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium

The Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium (SWSC) contributes to improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities in least developed and developing countries by increasing drinking water and sanitation coverage with a specific focus on WASH in schools and health care facilities. It also contributes to triggering innovation and knowledge sharing between the Swiss NGOs as well as strengthening the Swiss profile in advocacy and policy.

Accelerate 2030: Scaling entrepreneurial solutions for the Sustainable Develop-ment Goals

Switzerland has a long-standing engagement in multistakeholder partnerships and a strong conviction that they are needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With this contribution the Impact Hub Geneva (IHG) brings together social entrepreneurs from low and middle-income countries, the UN and impact investors and helps these entrepreneurs to scale up their business ideas in order to give the implementation of the 2030 Agenda a substantial push.

Anti-Corruption Support

The second phase of the Anti-Corruption Support program aims at accelerating the Swiss contribution to an institutional and social environment in Tanzania that is increasingly adverse to corruption. The main line of intervention remains technical assistance to the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) but increasingly includes other key anti-corruption agencies. This support is complemented by activities enhancing collective action to foster a society that is increasingly adverse to corrupt behaviour.

SDC BRAC Social Cohesion Fund for Cox’s Bazar District

This fund strengthens social cohesion in Cox’s Bazar by mitigating the negative consequences of the refugee influx on the most vulnerable segments of the local population. It will strategically upscale projects of BRAC, the biggest Bangladeshi NGO, through a series of medium-term contributions, adapted to the volatile context and emerging needs. The first two projects will support over 60’000 poor people to claim their rights and obtain legal redress and place 4’500 poor people in gainful employment. The intervention complements the engagement of Swiss Humanitarian Aid.

Bioculture and Climate Change

Bolivia is highly vulnerable to the effects of Climate Change, particularly in its regions of greater population density and poverty. Over two phases, the program has helped Bolivia to improve the resilience capacity of its most vulnerable communities, while in parallel building up and strengthening the public sector’s capacity in this area. The third and final phase aims to consolidate the mechanisms put in place by the State to implement its climate change related policies at national and subnational levels.

Contribution to UN COVID-19 Appeal Global Humanitarian Response Plan, April-December 2020

Established in 2005 as the UN’s global emergency response fund, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) pools contributions from donors around the world into a single fund allowing humanitarian responders to deliver life-saving assistance whenever and wherever crises hit. The CERF’s allocations from the Rapid Response Window for COVID-19 focus on supporting the Global Humanitarian Response Plan’s efforts in providing emergency relief assistance to those most at risk in the most vulnerable countries already with on-going humanitarian operations.

SomReP - Somalia Resilience Program

In the fragile and conflict affected context of Somalia, SDC’s contribution to the Somalia Resilience Programme Consortium enables pastoral, agro-pastoral, displaced persons and peri-urban poor to increase their ability to prepare for, adapt to and live through shocks without eroding their productivity or assets. Focusing on capacity building, livelihood diversification and the elaboration of community-based early warning systems, this initiative is complementary to ongoing efforts of government of Somalia and international community to build resilience of communities to climate shocks.

PROMYPE Project Integral services to improve the performance of urban micro and small enterprises in Bolivia

Micro and small enterprises in urban areas of Bolivia face difficulties that limit them increasing their productivity and improving incomes and jobs for their workers. The PROMYPE Project (formerly Jiwasa) supports the provision of integral public services aimed at addressing bottlenecks in production conditions and access to finance and markets. It also promotes the linking of national and local policies to support MSEs.

ASEAN/AHA Centre: Capacity Development

The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) is an intergovernmental organisation with the aim to facilitate cooperation and coordination in disaster management amongst the 10 ASEAN Member States. SDC will support the development of capacities of the AHA Centre to become a regional disaster management hub, thereby implementing the ASEAN-Switzerland Sectoral Dialogue Partnership in the Practical Cooperation Area on “Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance”, and the Memorandum of Intent agreed on 1st August 2019 between Switzerland and the AHA Centre.
