Choosing coffee over poppy - a public-private partnership (Myanmar)

In Southern Shan State infrastructure, access to basic services and income opportunities are scarce. Poverty and malnutrition are omnipresent and out-migration is high. Building on a private-public partnership with Malongo, a French coffee company and Walter Matter SA, a Swiss logistics firm, SDC supports the Green Gold coffee cooperative and its 900 members to become a sustainable and business-oriented organisation.

Donor Committee for Enterprise Development (DCED)

DCED as the independent and respected point of reference for standards, knowledge and data on the role of the private sector in development, contributes to improving donor’s programs in this domain. It also advocates globally the importance of the topic in the development sector. SDC supports the DCED in its various activities since the early 80ies and co-chairs the working group on Market System Development and Private Sector Engagement

Education for Sustainable Development in Mongolia

Education is a key factor for achieving the goals of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in Mongolia. ESD as concept that aims at integrating principles, values and practices of Sustainable Development into all aspects of education shall be anchored both in the learning plans and the normative framework of the Mongolian education system through developing the pedagogical skills of teachers, local authorities and educational centres as well as awareness-building of students and their communities in aimags (districts).

Comprehensive Water Supply and Sanitation in rural areas of the Sughd Region (CoWaSS)

The project will contribute to improve the population’s health and well-being through access to safe and affordable drinking water, as well as to appropriate sanitation and hygiene. This is a support to Tajikistan's efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 6. The project will apply a comprehensive approach to water and sanitation at the local, institutional and national policy levels with a specific targeted intervention in the Sughd region.

CMR : DRC Réponse protection Adamaoua

Avec cette contribution au projet de DRC, la DDC poursuit son engagement à la protection des populations affectées dans la région de l'Adamaoua à l'est du Cameroun (frontière RCA), par le renforcement de l'environnement protecteur et l'amélioration des moyens d'existence des communautées et des individus les plus vulnérables ; tout en réduisant l'exposition aux risques de protection des enfants en améliorant leur accès à l'éducation. 

HI: ACTIVA – Acción Integral Contra Minas en Caca y Nariño

COSUDE apoyará a Humanity & Inclusion (HI) con el objetivo de contribuir a la paz, la recuperación temprana y el desarrollo socioeconómico de las comunidades indígenas, campesinas y afrodescendientes afectadas por contaminación por armas, en los departamentos de Cauca y Nariño, bajo la Política de Estabilización del Gobierno. Se implementará un enfoque integral (educación en el riesgo de minas, desminado humanitario, asistencia y participación) que implica la recuperación de las economías y la infraestructura de la comunidad. Tendrá un impacto más amplio y una mejor relación costo-eficiencia.

Skills for Jobs

Lack of market-relevant skills is still an obstacle to Albania’s economic development and to reduce (youth) unemployment. The project is supporting the government to address this by reforming the vocational education and training (VET) system. Private sector will continue to play a bigger role in VET definition and provision. Already more than half of all VET students and 10% of all (short term) trainees will have access to improved and labour-market oriented skills development enhancing their prospects for a decent job and increased income.

Public Services Improvement

To improve people's quality of life, municipalities have to deliver efficiently and effectively services such as safe drinking water, waste collection, cultural facilities in a socially inclusive and gender responsive manner. In rural Kyrgyzstan, their capacities still need to be improved in a sustainable way. To achieve this, the project will develop the municipalities' support system which shall then provide adequate counseling and training to those municipalities not only today but also in the long run. 

Mainstreaming Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) into Agricultural Systems in Africa

Current agricultural and food systems rely greatly on non-renewable external inputs, impact negatively on soils, water, biodiversity, nutrition and health. Switzerland supports the Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative that promotes a viable alternative in Africa to ensure sustainable agricultural development, food and nutrition security of smallholder farmers in an environmentally sustainable manner, thereby contributing towards a more sustainable global food system.

Since the contested 2015 Presidential elections, civic space and democratic values have been on the decline in Tanzania. The 2019 local and 2020 national elections will therefore be a crucial moment for Tanzania’s democratic trajectory, which Switzerland has supported for many years. This single phase project supports a coalition of Tanzanian Civil Society Organizations to conduct long- and short term election observation; as well as a targeted intervention in Zanzibar to promote peaceful dialogue, especially for youth.

Budget Support to the health SWAp in the Kyrgyz Republic

Health sector reform is a priority of the Kyrgyz Government. Considerable improvements of the health status of the population were achieved in the last years. Yet, additional efforts have to be done to improve cost-effectiveness of the health system. The Kyrgyz Government approved its Health Strategy 2030, in view to strengthen primary health care, improve the quality of services and promote public health. The project will support the implementation of the Health Strategy by providing funding and technical assistance to the Government.
