Soutien aux activités d’INSO au Sahel

Switzerland will support the activities of INSO in the Sahel Region for the coming 4 years. By doing so, Switzerland caters to the safety and security of its implementing agencies, international and African alike, in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. This will allow SDC to fulfill its mandate of operating in fragile contexts, keeping-up with the principles of “staying engaged” and respecting humanitarian principles. Benefitting organisations will be able to increase their conflict-sensitivity both while in the field and when devising new programmes.

Swiss Contribution to the Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network (GFFFN)

Climate Change Adaptation in Mountains

Mountain societies and ecosystems are highly sensitive to climate change and adaptation measures are needed to increase their resilience. The programme will harness Swiss expertise and generate knowledge on climate change impacts and adaptation solutions in mountains on the global level. It will feed expertise into regional science-policy platforms and global policy frameworks to advance adaptation planning, for the benefit of vulnerable mountain communities.

Chad is a fragile state where bad governance, the economic crisis and the consequent austerity policy continue adding up to widespread frustrations of the Chadian population and especially of young people with a risk to become a failed state. In line with its national action plan on the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE), by supporting the project Voices for Peace Switzerland aims at enhancing the development and broadcasting of indigenous and local peace narratives.
SSIE-B - Scaling Social and Impact Enterprises in Bangladesh

By deploying innovative blended finance solutions and Swiss expertise on impact investment, SDC will accelerate the growth of social and impact-oriented start-up enterprises in Bangladesh. This will be achieved by improving the services available to entrepreneurs, stimulating investments into early-stage social enterprises, and creating incentives for enterprises to become more impact oriented. It will allow Switzerland to test a mechanism to leverage private resources for development, and improve the lives of poor men and women in a highly cost-effective manner, multiplying the impact of ODA resources.

Legal Identity for All (LIA) - Reaching Target 16.9 of the 2030 Agenda

Over a billion people do not have a legal identity. Legal identity is a prerequisite for full citizenship rights, formal employment, access to government services etc. People with no legal identity risk being left behind and stuck in poverty. The project will address the coordination gap between ongoing efforts of the UN and the WB and take advantage of new technologies to accelerate reaching target 16.9. of the 2030 Agenda “legal identity for all”.

Somalia Information and Resilience Building Action (SIRA)

The Somali population has remained chronically food insecure over the years with acute emergency needs during the cyclic drought periods. Switzerland contributes, through its support to enhanced fodder production and income, to the longer-term resilience building of the Somali communities. By supporting the provision of information and data for decision making, the formulation of evidence-based policy making and the use of the data for increased protection and resilience will enhanced.

Ethiopia, IOM - Durable Solutions

Ethiopia has about 2.1 million internally displaced people (IDPs) mainly due to conflict, drought and flood. Addressing the needs of IDPs has been limited to meeting their short-term humanitarian needs. Given the prolonged economic, social, and gender impacts of displacement on individuals, there is a critical need for longer-term solutions. Switzerland will contribute through IOM to address the long-term needs of the displaced and host communities in their search for self-sufficiency.
Kenya: IFC Private Sector Engagement Kakuma

The project IFC Private Sector Engagement Kakuma implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), seeks to attract private sector solutions for refugees and host communities through catalyzing private investments. In 2019, the Global WASH cluster will continue the implementation of the four strategic objectives set out in the 2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan. The Swiss contribution will contribute to ensuring predictable, timely and effective WASH response by the WASH cluster partners in humanitarian crises through direct and indirect field support.

The program contributes to outcome 1.2 of the SDC’s 2017-2020 strategy. This intermediary phase of the program would contribute to leverage the resilience of independent electoral authorities for the successful organization of the 2019 national elections and beyond and strengthen citizen engagement in decision making through effective outreach and civic education. It would also permit for a closer assessment of the field to prepare for the phasing out of the program moving forward.

This project aims at enhancing security coordination and local contextual understanding to increase humanitarian access to insecure locations both inside and outside of Protection of Civilian (PoC) sites. Through enhanced understanding of the context, operational threats can be better mitigated by NGOs, facilitating scale-up of programme and service delivery to the affected population in South Sudan’s Upper Nile and Unity States.
