As a result of the weak nature of the state, which has kept institutions, in particular defence and security, weak and fragmented, the state is unable to protect people and their livelihoods. DRC has implemented protection activities, supported by SDC, in two different areas of North Kivu province since August 2013. It has become clear that in order to obtain a lasting impact and to seriously reinforce the capacity of the target communities in regards to awareness of their rights, it is of utmost importance to continue to work with the affected communities over an extended period of time.

MeteoSchweiz está involucrada a nivel mundial, junto a la COSUDE, en la mejora de las bases de datos climatológicos. Gracias a series de mediciones meteorológicas sofisticadas y con vistas a largo plazo, es posible evaluar los efectos del cambio climático y reconocer mejor las oportunidades y riesgos derivados del mismo. El proyecto acaba de finalizar tras un período de cinco años.

Facilitating the reintegration of Internally Displaced Persons through durable solutions and their equal participation in the recovery of Zimbabwe

Facilitating the transition of communities towards stabilization and recovery in areas highly impacted by internal displacement remains one of the key protection priorities of SDC in Zimbabwe in line with the Swiss Cooperation Strategy Southern African 2013-2016 and with the priority of the Government of Zimbabwe.

Increase the integrity of prosecutors and prosecuting the new challenges in organized crime

The project aims to strengthen the integrity, the legal and institutional capacity of Bulgarian Prosecutors in investigating and prosecuting organised crime. The project is in line with the national priorities and strategies in fighting organized crime and is directly targeting judiciary reforms and priorities entailed from the European Commission Reports on the Progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM). ACF - Livelihood rehabilitation leading to resilience building in vulnerable (agro-)pastoralist communitiesEmergency sanitation response, Lietchor refugee camp, Gambela Region

Implemented by ACF the project enhances drought affected Somali and Borana communities to better mitigate the effects of drought and build their resilience by improving their potential for exploiting new and traditional sources of food and income generation whilst enabling them to conserve and protect natural resources based on customary knowledge and practices. In addition, ACF will provide emergency sanitation in Lietchor camp for the newly arrived South Sudanese refugees.

Enhancing the effectiveness of UNICEF programming

The planned Research Programme for Child Well-Being and Development aims to promote innovative, evidence-based research, which will contribute to increasing UNICEF’s and other partners’ effectiveness in addressing child-specific development challenges. The Research Programme is established at the University of Zurich and funded by SDC, the UNICEF Suisse and private sector foundations.

Nepal Agricultural Services Development Programme (NASDP) – Main Credit Phase 1

Agriculture in Nepal is characterized by low growth and productivity, yet it still is the mainstay for 66% of the rural poor people. The small farmers will improve their productivity, income and food security thanks to the strengthening of a decentralized and pluralistic extension and research system, receptive to their needs and demands. Built on previous SDC interventions and in line with Nepal’s Agricultural Development Strategy, this system will also enhance their social inclusion.

Information management system on geogenic contaminants

An estimated 200 million people worldwide, roughly 5% of those who use groundwater for drinking, are exposed to elevated concentrations of arsenic or fluoride (geogenic contaminants), whose health effects are severe. This initiative, proposed by Eawag, aims to reduce disease caused by geogenic contamination through awareness creation among government institutions and donors. An interactive knowledge hub will provide global maps for arsenic and fluoride, and expertise for data analysis and recommendations for action. There will be active capacity building in selected affected hub countries in Asia and Africa.

Le Programme Redevabilité vise à créer un environnement où les organisations de la société civile, les citoyens et les médias interagissent avec les pouvoirs publics pour offrir de meilleurs services de base aux populations. Son approche consiste à renforcer à la fois la demande et l’offre de la redevabilité au niveau local et national dans une démarche de complémentarité avec les programmes DDC et les initiatives des autres partenaires techniques et financiers.

Support to Community Forestry and Fisheries

SDC contributes to a program on Support to Community Forestry and Fisheries implemented in partnership with the Non Timber Forest Products Exchange Program. The program strengthens local communities to secure access to natural resources to improve food security and increase their income. It focuses on Kratié and Stung Treng provinces, which are rich in natural resources but where people suffer from high poverty rates.

Swiss contribution to the Green Climate Fund

Switzerland is committed to supporting developing and transition countries in implementing climate measures. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a new multilateral climate fund, expected to become the main multilateral fund to support climate change action in developing countries, and complementing existing multilateral climate funds. Its mission is to finance low-emission and climate-resilient development programmes with a focus on the most vulnerable countries and communities
