Switzerland and Barbados have signed agreements in areas such as double taxation, investment protection, the transfer of sentenced persons, air traffic and lifting mutual visa requirements. The Swiss embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, represents Switzerland's interests in Barbados.
In 2020 Switzerland imported goods worth CHF 500,000 from Barbados and exported goods amounting to CHF 3.7 million – mainly watches, jewellery and agricultural and forestry products.
Researchers in Barbados can apply to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

At the end of 2020 there were 34 Swiss nationals living in Barbados.
Switzerland and Barbados commenced diplomatic relations in 1980. Switzerland opened an honorary consulate on the island in 1993.
