Bilateral relations Switzerland–Equatorial Guinea

Relations between Switzerland and Equatorial Guinea are good but not well developed.

Key aspects of diplomatic relations

Switzerland has set out a strategy for sub-Saharan Africa for 2021–24.

Although Equatorial Guinea has a permanent representation to the United Nations in Geneva, the country's embassy in Paris remains competent for matters concerning Switzerland. Swiss interests in Equatorial Guinea are represented by the Swiss embassy in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

History of bilateral relations

The Federal Council recognised the independence of the former Spanish colony of Guinea on 15 October 1968 and established diplomatic relations with the new state. Trade has remained very weak (timber, machinery, chemical products), as have migratory flows. Since the 1990s, the development of petroleum production has led a few Swiss companies to set up operations in Equatorial Guinea.
