Bilateral relations Switzerland–the Gambia

Switzerland recognized The Gambia’s independence in 1965 and has maintained diplomatic relations with the West African republic since 1966. Between 1988 and 1995, Switzerland was one of The Gambia’s most important donor countries. The bilateral treaty on support for the country elapsed at the end of 1995 and was not renewed.

Despite agreements on the protection of investment and on civil aviation, economic exchange between the two countries remained modest, and the volume of trade diminished even further after the military coup in 1994.
