Bilateral relations Switzerland–St. Kitts and Nevis

Switzerland maintains good relations with the Caribbean island state of St Kitts and Nevis, though these are limited in scope.

Key aspects of diplomatic relations

The Swiss embassy in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) has represented the interests of Switzerland in St Kitts and Nevis since 2007. Since 2011, the regional consular centre in Santo Domingo has been handling all consular affairs.

To date, Switzerland and St Kitts and Nevis have not entered into any bilateral agreements.

Economic cooperation

St Kitts and Nevis' principal economic sectors are tourism and financial services. Economic and trade relations between the two countries are very limited in scope. In 2023, Switzerland imported CHF 850,000 worth of goods from St Kitts and Nevis and exported goods to the value of CHF 1.7 million.

Researchers and artists who are citizens of St Kitts and Nevis can apply to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

At the end of 2023, 20 Swiss nationals were living in St Kitts and Nevis.

History of bilateral relations

The island nation of St Kitts and Nevis, located in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the eastern Caribbean, gained its independence in 1983. Diplomatic ties between Switzerland and St Kitts and Nevis were established in 1992. Switzerland opened an honorary consulate in St Kitts and Nevis in 2022.
