Thematic strategies
The Federal Council specifies individual areas of the Foreign Policy Strategy in a series of geographical and thematic follow-up strategies.

Consular Strategy 2026-29
In a world undergoing profound change, marked by the return of war to Europe, the erosion of the multilateral order and the fragmentation of alliances, consular action is taking on new importance. Whether it be assistance for Swiss nationals, administrative services or visa processing, consular action remains a key lever of Switzerland's presence abroad.
Switzerland’s international cooperation strategy
The International Cooperation Strategy 2025-2028 adopted by Parliament in December 2024 sets out Switzerland’s priorities for development and economic cooperation, humanitarian aid and the promotion of peace and human rights.
The overarching objective of international cooperation is to end poverty and support sustainable development worldwide. It is an integral part of Swiss foreign and security policy.
