UN Youth Volunteers and UN internships
Each year Switzerland finances around 20 UN Youth Volunteer placements. Switzerland does not fund internships at the UN. If you are interested, apply to the UN directly.
UN Youth Volunteer Programme
The SDC and the FDFA's Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD) finance around 20 placements within the UN Youth Volunteers programme every year. This gives young Swiss graduates the chance to gather a one year professional experience working for the UN.
Since 2021, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) also finances positions within the UN Youth Volunteer Programme. These offer an insight and experience within a multilateral development bank.
Minimum requirements for both programmes are a master's degree and three to 24 months relevant work experience. Candidates must have Swiss citizenship and be under 29 years of age.
Internships at international organisations
The UN offers internships for advanced students at the organisation's headquarters. You can apply by going to the UN's recruitment site, Inspira.
Students interested in doing an internship at one of the UN agencies should contact the organisation directly for information.
Other UN and international organisations offer internships in addition to the organisations under the UN Secretariat. If you are interested, apply directly to the organisation in question.
