Life without violence, from dream to reality

The face of a woman who has been abused.

01.02.2015 - 31.05.2020

The SDC hopes that by backing a newly-adopted law in Bolivia on ending violence against women, it can contribute to more systematic and targeted care for female victims. Local and national authorities and the people are working together on a comprehensive approach to prevent assaults on women. Too often, attitudes are tinged with a male chauvinism that sanctions violence.

Two women engaged in a discussion with a psychologist at a counselling centre

01.01.2013 - 31.12.2016

Domestic violence is a worrisome reality in Bolivia. Beyond the serious physical and psychological scars that it leaves on the victims, it jeopardises the process of democratisation and the fight against poverty. The SDC is committed to countering violence towards women.

Natural Disasters: better equipping disadvantaged population groups to cope

01.01.2013 - 31.05.2014

Floods, droughts, hailstorms, frost, landslides and earthquakes are among the natural hazards to which Bolivia is exposed. All of these natural disasters are exacerbated by climate change and severely affect Bolivia’s population. The Disaster Risk Reduction Programme in Bolivia improves the country’s ability to reduce the impact of natural disasters and climate change on people’s lives, on the country’s economy and on its infrastructure.

01.04.2009 - 31.08.2015

Formación técnica profesional

01.05.2017 - 31.01.2026

Growth with productive diversification is essential for reducing poverty. Vocational training is key for improving production and expanding opportunities for employment/self-employment. The project aims to reduce poverty and inequality by improving access to the labour market. It seeks to improve vocational skills with an emphasis on young people and women, the quality of training centres, and the shared responsibility of public and private stakeholders. Strategies cover both the national and the local level.

FONDO SUIZO DE APOYO A LA CULTURA

15.09.2015 - 31.12.2019

BIOCULTURA 2015 - 2019

01.06.2015 - 31.12.2019

In the last 5 years the Biocultura programme has elaborated an environment compatible approach for the development of rural communities – known as „Vivir Bien“ in Bolivia, and has contributed to the definition of a legal framework for the climate issue. In the 2nd phase 15.000 families in 400 communities have been receiving support to assimilate the climate changes and national capacities for an efficient and transparent management of the national climate budget have been constructed.

Jiwasa Programme – Strengthening urban MSEs

01.04.2015 - 31.03.2024

Poverty and vulnerability have increased among the urban population due to the surge in rural-urban migration. The project contributes to a National Programme that focuses on poverty reduction and improvements in employment conditions by providing financial and non-financial services required by urban Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). The support focuses on processing activities of several productive sectors, benefiting 15,000 MSEs.

Integral water management (GESTOR II)

01.09.2014 - 31.12.2018

Since 2007 Bolivia is implementing a national Watershed-policy, which is based on a 20-years-project work of Swiss EZA in this area and which aims for an integral water management. Together with other providers Switzerland supports the implementation of the 2nd phase of the national plan for Watershed-management on national level and in the 4 Andean departments.  This way, the resilience of 62.500 families will be improved directly and of 300.000 indirectly in the next 4 ½ years.

JIWASA Programme – Strengthening Urban MSEs

01.09.2014 - 31.03.2020

Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) involved in processing have the potential to contribute to industrial development in Bolivia, but their productivity is low. The Jiwasa Programme is a government initiative that seeks to increase production and incomes. With public and private sector support, it will provide direct and strategic services to five production clusters prioritised by the Bolivian government. 10’000 jobs will be improved, and gender equality and cleaner production will be promoted.

Disaster risk reduction

01.06.2014 - 31.12.2018

The effects of climate change and the impact of natural hazards keep affecting rural vulnerable livelihoods. The Bolivian Government prioritised food security to reduce extreme poverty through major increase of public investments in sectors of water resources (dam) & on rural development (irrigation system, soil conservation, and early warning system). The risk of failure of these infrastructures because of disasters is high for lack of integrated risk management and climate change adaptation (CCA). The SDC project intends to strengthen the resilience of the existing and future infrastructures in the sectors.

Programa de Reduccion de Riesgo de Desastres -PRRD 4: Promoting culture of Resilience

18.03.2014 - 31.12.2018

Bolivia is one of the countries worldwide with highest risk from impact of climate change (CC). The latter affects the socio-economic development of the country and in particular rural vulnerable livelihoods. Disaster Risk Reduction is not properly developed in public policies although the Bolivian Government is keen to reduce the vulnerability. The SDC project intends to develop a lasting/sustainable culture of resilience among public sector with training of key agents of change and raising awareness among population.
