Karin Keller-Sutter to meet Emmanuel Macron in Paris

Press releases, 27.06.2025

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Karin Keller-Sutter, is to meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday, 1 July. The geopolitical situation and security issues will be at the centre of their discussions. Also on the agenda are bilateral relations between Switzerland and France, European policy and competitiveness.

The aim of the dialogue is to discuss the current geopolitical challenges and the European policy positions of the two countries in depth at the highest level. Switzerland and France maintain excellent neighbourly relations, as was underlined during President Macron's state visit to Switzerland in 2023. The relationship is very close at all levels. No other country is home to more Swiss citizens living abroad than France (around 212,000). Conversely, around 170,000 French people live in Switzerland – more than in any other country outside France.

With a total trade volume of CHF 37.6 billion (2024), France is Switzerland's sixth most important trading partner. Switzerland and France are also among each other's most important target countries for direct investment abroad, and more than 230,000 French cross-border commuters work in Switzerland. The two countries are also closely linked in the areas of research, education and culture.
