CAIRO, Egypt – The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Embassy of Switzerland co-hosted a working breakfast in Cairo on 13 March 2018 to launch the findings of an ILO legal review titled “Apprenticeship in Egypt – Towards a Unified System?” which evaluates different apprenticeship systems implemented across Egypt and offers policy recommendations on how to strengthen them.

Human rights are at the heart of the values represented by Switzerland and its political model, which is founded on the principles of democracy, non-discrimination, gender equality, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among people having different religious, linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Switzerland calls upon its partners to join it in making this Human Rights Day 2017 a day of unequivocal relevance for the promotion and the protection of human rights.



International meeting in Bern to ensure better protection for migrants on the Central Mediterranean migration route

Bern, 03.11.2017 - Switzerland will host the third meeting of the Central Mediterranean Contact Group on 13 November 2017 in Bern. Set up at the initiative of Italy, the Contact Group allows European and African countries affected by migration along the Central Mediterranean migration route to exchange information and coordinate their action. Switzerland is hosting this meeting to find better ways to protect migrants. The goal is to improve migrants' living conditions and ensure better protection for them along the migration route. Many migrants fall victim to extortion, threats, ill-treatment, violence and smuggling of migrants. The meeting will take place at ministerial level and is expected to lead to the adoption of a joint declaration.
