IFC, Governments of United Kingdom and Switzerland Help Improve Investment Climate in the Kyrgyz Republic

On December 12, 2017, IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, released the results of a five-year program which aimed to help the Kyrgyz Republic to improve the business environment and to promote private investments in order to create jobs and support sustainable economic development. The initiative is part of the IFC Central Asia Investment Climate Program, which is funded by the government of Switzerland and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development.

Municipalities of Sakaldy, Lenin and Masy in Jalal-Abad oblast as well as Kumbel and Bostery in Issyk-Kul oblast improve the quality of public services delivered to their citizens. This result is part of the Public Service Improvement project, financed by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by a consortium of partners, Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and Development Policy Institute.  

Exhibition dedicated to local self-governance is open at Art gallery in Bishkek

Official opening of the posters’ exhibition dedicated to citizen participation in municipal life and transparency of local self-governments took place on November 2, 2017 at Aitiev National Art gallery in Bishkek. Until November 19, 2017 guests of the Gallery will have a chance to see posters of artists who participated in the competition “Live better: here and now, 2017”.  Around 180 posters were submitted for the competition by more than 80 authors.

Switzerland supports service improvement at the local level

On October 24, 2017, an official ceremony was held to inaugurate a renovated water supply system providing access to safe drinking water for the population of the village Kachybek of Ak-Chiy Aiyl Aimak of the Issyk-Kul oblast, and its social facilities, i.e one school, one kindergarten, one village medical point and the sport hall. The ceremony was attended by the residents, representatives of the local municipality and council, representatives of the oblast and the district authorities.

Up to EUR 6 million for SME development in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan.

On 22 September 2017 the EBRD held the First Stakeholder meeting of the Small Business Initiative (SBI) in Bishkek to mark the successful start of the programme to support local SMEs in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. Through this initiative, the EBRD is ramping up its activities with small and medium-sized enterprises to help them grow and make them more competitive. The event gathered representatives of government, business associations, banks and international partners to launch the initiative and discuss next steps.

On 13th of September 2017, the State Service for Regulation and Supervision of Financial Markets of Kyrgyz Republic and the World Bank have launched a new technical assistance project aimed at improving the quality of audit and financial reporting in the Kyrgyz Republic.  The Kyrgyz Audit and Reporting Enhancement project (KAREP), funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), will work to enhance the investment climate in the Kyrgyz Republic by increasing the availability of transparent and reliable financial information.

On July 18, 2017, an official ceremony was held to inaugurate a cultural center that will benefit over 3’500 residents of Ottuk and Kara-Shaar villages of Ulahol Aiyl Aymak. Leisure and recreation services provided by the cultural center have been improved with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The ceremony was attended by residents, representatives of the Ulahol municipality and local council, the Embassy of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the implementing organizations Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and the Development Policy Institute.

Swiss Minister of Finance visited Kyrgyzstan on occasion of 25th anniversary of the joint voting group in the IMF and World Bank

The Swiss Federal Councillor and Minister of Finance, Ueli Maurer, visits Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the joint voting group in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The visit takes place from 9 to 10 July and included meetings with President Almazbek Atambaev, Minister of Finance Adylbek Kasymaliev, Governor of the National Bank Tolkunbek Abdygulov as well as with local entrepreneurs and opinion leaders.
