Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann on economic mission to the Caucasus and Central Asia from 8 to 16 July

Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann will travel to the South Caucasus and Central Asia from 8 to 16 July, heading a sizeable 35-strong delegation including representatives from parliament, cantonal governments and the private sector. The economic mission will take in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. The aim is to identify business opportunities for Swiss firms under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, to foster relations with member countries of Switzerland’s constituency in the international financial institutions (World Bank, IMF, EBRD) and to highlight Switzerland’s development cooperation programmes (Uzbekistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Azerbaijan). A number of declarations of intent and memorandums are expected to be signed during the mission (Kazakhstan).

The State Registration Service’s new Capacity Development Centre has opened

14 June 2018, Bishkek – Today the State Registration Service with the support of the UNDP, the Government of Switzerland and OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek opened the training centre with the aim to capacitate the staff of the SRS and CEC in preparations of elections in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Centre will become a platform for professional growth of the staff involved in the election and updating their skills and knowledge on digital innovations.

Francophonie week 2018 in Bishkek

IFC, Governments of United Kingdom and Switzerland Help Improve Investment Climate in the Kyrgyz Republic

On December 12, 2017, IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, released the results of a five-year program which aimed to help the Kyrgyz Republic to improve the business environment and to promote private investments in order to create jobs and support sustainable economic development. The initiative is part of the IFC Central Asia Investment Climate Program, which is funded by the government of Switzerland and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development.

Municipalities of Sakaldy, Lenin and Masy in Jalal-Abad oblast as well as Kumbel and Bostery in Issyk-Kul oblast improve the quality of public services delivered to their citizens. This result is part of the Public Service Improvement project, financed by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by a consortium of partners, Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and Development Policy Institute.  

Exhibition dedicated to local self-governance is open at Art gallery in Bishkek

Official opening of the posters’ exhibition dedicated to citizen participation in municipal life and transparency of local self-governments took place on November 2, 2017 at Aitiev National Art gallery in Bishkek. Until November 19, 2017 guests of the Gallery will have a chance to see posters of artists who participated in the competition “Live better: here and now, 2017”.  Around 180 posters were submitted for the competition by more than 80 authors.
