Security situation in the region

Dear Swiss citizens,

The FDFA now advises against tourist and non-urgent travel to Qatar.

Several national airlines are resuming limited operations at Abu Dhabi and Dubai international airports. Airports in countries whose airspace is currently open are gradually increasing their services in order to best meet the needs of people currently stranded in the region. Please stay in touch with your travel agency or airline to discuss your departure options. If you decide to leave the region by land to a neighboring country, please allow sufficient time for the journey and border crossings, find out in advance which border posts are accessible and what visa requirements apply, and only go to the airport with a confirmed ticket. The decision to leave the region is an individual responsibility and travel costs are to be borne by the individuals concerned.

For Swiss nationals in Qatar who have a ticket with Qatar Airways:

The Swiss Embassy in Doha is in contact with Qatar Airways to explore options for facilitating the return of individuals who already have a ticket. To this end, we invite you – on a voluntary basis – to send the following information for each person traveling to: doha@eda.admin.ch: surname, first name, passport number, email address, phone number, nationality, and Qatar Airways booking reference number. Only messages containing all of this information will be processed.

Important: The FDFA has no influence on Qatar Airways' operational decisions and cannot give any guarantees regarding the date of travel, the destination in Europe, or the additional costs to the final destination. Decisions are made exclusively by the airline and the relevant authorities.

If you have already left the region, we urge you to end your trip on Travel Admin. This will help us to update the number of our citizens remaining in the crisis region and to adapt our arrangements accordingly.

In case of emergency, the FDFA helpline in Bern can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on +41 800 24 7 365 / +41 58 465 33 33 or by email at helpline@eda.admin.ch.
