Security situation in the region
Dear Swiss citizens,
The FDFA now advises against tourist and non-essential travel to Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
Qatar Airways is currently operating a limited number of flights. Please check the website, the app or via the hotline +974 4144 5555 of Qatar Airways for possible flight options.
The FDFA recommends that people who wish to leave the country continue to explore all options for departure, including alternative flight connections via Saudi Arabia or Oman. If you have already left the region, please terminate your registered trip in Travel Admin. This will help us to keep an up-to-date overview of the people still in the area.
If you decide to leave the country by land to a neighboring country, allow sufficient time for the journey and border crossing, find out in advance about passable border crossings and the applicable visa requirements, and only travel to the airport with a confirmed ticket. The decision to leave the country is your own responsibility and at your own expense.
The principle of personal responsibility applies in accordance with the Swiss Abroad Act.
We are aware that the situation is distressing for you and thank you for your patience. The FDFA is in close contact with the local authorities. In this context, additional transport options as well as alternative routes are being continuously assessed.
In the meantime, please follow the instructions of the local authorities. They will provide information about safety precautions, warn the population, and carry out evacuations if necessary.
In case of emergency, the FDFA helpline in Bern can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on +41 800 24 7 365 / +41 58 465 33 33 or by email at helpline@eda.admin.ch.
