The 4th edition of the Diversity and Inclusion Film Festival, jointly organized by 12 Diplomatic Missions in China, will take place in Beijing from 1 November to 17 November 2023. This year’s theme is “Finding Our Voice”, inviting the audience to embark on a fabulous journey in which you see fearless people strive to find their voice in society.
The Swiss Embassy will present a series of short films, presenting a diverse Switzerland from different perspectives:
- 17 Anni: Matteo is a 17-year-old boy who comes to the realization that he is in love with Don Massimo, a young priest of the village. For the first time in his life, Matteo feels ready to open up to someone...
- D'où est-ce que tu viens: Through various testimonials and elements found on the internet, this video denounces the discrimination that people of Asian origin can suffer. Dance (krump) is a good way to react to all this daily violence.
- HAMAMA & CALUNA: The two young friends Hamama and Caluna have left everything behind to flee their home country and ended up stranded in a camp in northern Italy. One day, they decide to cross the closed border into Switzerland under cover of darkness by going over the Alps.
- ÉCORCE: In a hidden place where time seems suspended, a retirement home reveals its daily routine. Drawn in pencil, the residents come to life on paper. Everyone is active, rests or bends to the schedule of medication, meals or games. Around them, machines blink, caregivers are busy and crucifixes remind them of the death that lies in wait. Time fades away and nearby, the forest stretches out.
- Armat: Élodie tries to find out more about her family's Armenian origins. She interviews her father, her uncle, her great aunt, and discovers a harsh history where violence and the inability to express love are passed down from generation to generation.
- DAZWISCHEN: Sonja, Angeles and Kaajal are twelve years old. Sometimes childlike, other times astoundingly grown-up, they are going through a turbulent time full of changes. With impressive candor they question how they are perceived as girls. Between self-reflection and expectations from others, they're courageously trying to find their own paths.
