The Embassy of Switzerland in the UK has started to explore the role of art and culture in mediation processes as an additional tool to assist and possibly unblock mediation and peace processes. In 2020 Dr Isabel Käser researched projects, interventions and points in time where art and culture have played an integral role in peace-building processes. She further explored how artistic practice can inform and support mediators during formal peace negotiations.

The project’s principal aim is to establish a discourse on the role of culture and artistic practices within mediation amongst mediators and peace researchers. It endeavours to explore and contribute towards new and creative avenues of peace diplomacy and to fulfil Switzerland’s constitutional provisions of promoting peace and democracy.
