A double earthquake struck Venezuela on the afternoon of 24 June 2026. The FDFA is closely monitoring the situation and expresses its deepest sympathy to all those affected by this earthquake, as well as to their families and loved ones. The Swiss Embassy in Caracas is in contact with the local authorities. Caracas International Airport (Maiquetía) is currently closed.
Swiss nationals as well as Swiss tourists currently in the country are required to follow the instructions issued the local authorities. The decision to undertake, continue or interrupt a trip remains at the discretion of each traveller. Return journeys must be arranged individually or through a travel agency. Please follow the FDFA’s travel advice and also obtain information independently on the current situation through official and reliable sources.
Tourist travel to Venezuela, as well as any other travel that is not urgent, is discouraged. In general, travel to certain parts of the country is not recommended.
The Swiss Embassy’s premises have been affected and will remain closed until further notice. However, the Embassy remains operational and continues to provide essential services on a limited basis. All communication with the Embassy must be conducted exclusively via email.
