Gobernanza del riesgo en Centroamérica

01.12.2017 - 31.07.2022

Community Driven Watershed Management for Climate Change Adaptation in Nicaragua

01.01.2016 - 30.06.2020

Environmental degradation and climate change are reducing the capacity of the Dipilto River watershed to provide ecosystem services (water, forest) to the population, increasing their vulnerability and deepening poverty. The program will strengthen dialogue among stakeholders, empower communities and provide economic incentives for restoring the hydrologic and environmental equilibrium of the watershed, increasing the resilience of its 27 thousand inhabitants.

Community-driven watershed management for climate change adaptation

01.12.2013 - 31.12.2018

The "Dry Corridor" of Honduras has a “climate risk index” rating that is among the world’s highest. The population suffers from repeated drought and other extreme meteorological events. Rural families depend on natural resources and are the most affected. One critically important adaptation to climate change is integral water management. Using a community-driven approach, through dialogue and territorial governance mechanisms, the program will improve the resilience of the poor in the trans-border watershed of the Goascorán River.

In Nicaragua, reducing the risks of disasters is paying off

A man standing next to a stone wall less than one metre high built in a cultivated field.

01.10.2013 - 31.03.2017

An experimental project on minimising damage linked to climate change has been conducted over a period of a little more than three years in Nicaragua. It has enabled thousands of smallholder farmers to become aware of the problem and to try out new techniques. And it has increased their harvests.

Catastrophic Microinsurance in Central America

01.03.2013 - 31.03.2022

Central America is a natural disasters prone region where large vulnerable populations suffer over-proportionately from increasing frequency and impact of climate change events, as traditional disaster coping mechanisms are eroding with growing environmental pressures and rising urbanisation. The public-private development partnership with Swiss Re, FOMIN, and KfW’s Climate Adaptation Fund supports MiCRO in strengthening the disaster resilience of at least 80’000 vulnerable households by 30.9.2016.

Disaster Risk Reduction Programme 2013-2017

01.02.2013 - 30.09.2019

Climate change will strongly affect Central America. DRR and CCA have become a public policy priority in Nicaragua and Honduras. The SDC DRR programme supports institutions at the regional, national and local level to strengthen response capacities and increase resilience. Capacities will be enhanced in local development planning, research, academic curricula, and community mobilization. Successful approaches will be consolidated, refined and scaled up.
