Aquafund IDB
Contribute to more sustainable, reliable and acceptable quality W&S services in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, especially in rural areas and low income countries (LICs). The AquaFund is a tool that allows SDC to support the W&S initiative, especially in LICs and rural areas, in terms of quality of projects, and their sustainability. In connection with hardware investments of the IDB and Spain WSS Fund, SDC achieves a scaling up of its know how and past “software” investment => Wide application of sustainable models for W&S => increased sustainability and cost effectiveness=>increase coverage especially in rural W&S. To reach the overall objective, the following achieve outcomes: For SDC: Contribution to enhanced capacities of the IDB (water specialists) to promote sustainable models of intervention and approaches in rural water and sanitation, thereby increasing efficiency and sustainability of IDB supported W&S programmes in LAC, especially in LICs. For the IDB: Enhanced capacities to support LAC countries to achieve universal access to sustainable, reliable and acceptable quality W&S services, and the water related MDG.
