Generating youth employment and economic empowerment opportunities through advancing the Palestinian innovation eco-system

Switzerland aims to support the development of a nascent Palestinian tech start-up community in order to generate jobs especially for young graduates and women, among whom unemployment is particularly high. This contribution to UNDP builds on a successful pilot in Gaza. It provides targeted support and mentoring to students in selected universities to incubate promising business ideas and strengthens the linkages between academia, private sector and business incubators.

Strengthening institutional capacity for treatment and care for HIV/AIDS patients

Ruedi Luethy Foundation (RLF) uses a nurse-led and doctor-supervised approach to provide comprehensive care and treatment to HIV patients. Through its Newlands Clinic Training Centre (NCTC), human capital in Southern Africa for Opportunistic Infections/Anti-Retroviral Therapy (OI/ART) management is strengthened and mortality due to AIDS related illnesses is reduced. RLF is a pillar of best practice in HIV management and care and the single biggest contributor to Swiss visibility within the local context.

Safeguard Young People – Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

The UNFPA Safeguard Young People programme contributes to the reduction of HIV infections and improved sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people (aged 10-24) in eight Southern African countries. It supports the adoption, domestication and implementation of regional policies and helps increase young people’s knowledge, skills, agency, and equitable access to integrated HIV/SRHR services. The SYP leverages one of Switzerland’s 15 priority multilateral organizations to achieve the Swiss goal of wide regional impact.

AQJS - Access to Quality Justice Services

Despite significant progress, Afghan justice institutions face challenges in the delivery of justice services, especially to vulnerable populations, such as women, children and prisoners. This project implemented by the United Nations Development Program provides support to both institutional and citizen engagement to increase access to quality justice for all citizens and particularly to vulnerable groups and strengthen the justice institutions to fulfil their constitutional and human rights obligations.

Appui aux médias dans la région des Grands Lacs

Dans la région des Grands Lacs, les médias jouent un rôle central dans le processus de démocratisation. Cependant, ils sont fragilisés par un contexte politique sensible et des limites d’ordre professionnel et légal. Grace à son engagement à long terme, la Suisse a une grande crédibilité dans ce secteur. Le programme vise à renforcer la cohésion sociale à travers l’amélioration des capacités des médias, à fournir une information de qualité et à offrir une plateforme de dialogue entre acteurs. L’intervention sera faite au travers des partenaires locaux, régionaux et internationaux.

CASE - Culture, Art and Social Engagement

This project aims at promoting the role of people as agents of change in the occupied Palestinian territory. Culture and artistic creativity are used to enhance democratic debate, promote social inclusion and active participation of youth and women within marginalized communities and between the community and the local authorities. Local authorities will be influenced so that local development better reflects the needs of these groups.

Mine Clearance

In the past 30 years, Cambodia has cleared over 1,900 km2 of minefields, benefiting approx. 5.6 million people. However, an area of approx.860 km2 is still heavily contaminated. Cambodia aims to be a mine-free country by 2025. The main goal of the Swiss contribution is the clearance of 12.2 km2 of mined areas spread in a long strip of land in northwestern Cambodia that will provide safe access to land and livelihood development directly to 25,000 rural households.

Accountability for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda

The 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals is the internationally agreed guiding framework for sustainable development. A follow-up and review process, to which Switzerland has substantially contributed, supports accountability for the Agenda at national, regional and global levels. This proposal includes contributions to different partners which will enable a substantial role of important stakeholders in this process, for better decisions and measurement of progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Culture for Development - Myanmar

The project aims (i) to support freedom of expression and cultural identity, (ii) to promote skills and jobs in arts and culture. This will contribute to support socio-economic development and to strengthen social cohesion. Covid-19 has massively eroded livelihoods and carries a further risk for fundamental freedoms and civil society participation. The support to the culture sector is a relevant complement and leverage to Switzerland’s current interventions for peace, democracy and sustainable development in Myanmar.

National Water Resource Management Project in Uzbekistan

The project supports the water sector reform through the development of an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) - based strategic framework that ensures equitable and fair water distribution among all water users. This will allow the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) to efficiently and effectively manage water resources leading to increased water productivity and improved livelihoods of the rural population in Uzbekistan.


Decentralization for Improved Democratic Education (DECIDE)

Decentralisation and education reforms are key components to the ongoing national reforms that need to be pursued in a coordinated manner. Capitalizing on experience in decentralisation reform and in citizenship education, Switzerland will support the development of efficient, transparent and participatory education governance in rural areas of Ukraine, where it will aim at fostering trust between local authorities and citizens through improved education service and greater civic engagement of youth.

Philippines: Typhoon Phanfone - Contribution to IFRC Emergency Appeal

28.12.2019 - 31.12.2020

This Emergency Appeal seeks 2 million Swiss francs (CHF) to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to deliver assistance for 12 months and support to 20,000 people affected by Typhoon (TY) Phanfone/Ursula. The appeal focuses on the following sectors: shelter; livelihoods and basic needs; health; WASH; protection; gender and inclusion (PGI); migration; community disaster preparedness and risk reduction; and National Society capacity enhancement. Therein, SDC favours humanitarian assistance to Shelter and WASH sectors.
