The “Society, culture and memory” programme promotes culture and historical memory in Central America to stimulate processes leading towards more inclusive, less violent societies. Both culture and historical memory have enormous potential to help to create identities and transform societies in the Central American region, which has been characterized by inconclusive peace and democratization processes and the highest rates of violence in the world. With its long presence in the region and its impartial reputation, Switzerland is well positioned to enhance these processes

Community-led Outreach on Safe Migration (COSM)

This single-phase project will complement a larger EU-supported project aiming at making people aware about safe migration at the Union and Upazilla level. The project will also pilot a pre-employment module developed by the Global Program Migration and Development and used in Sri Lanka, to verify its effectiveness in the context of Bangladesh. It is expected that the evidence generated in this project will feed into a larger SDC-funded project, to start in 2019.

The Humanitarian Fund (HF) in the occuped Palestinian territory (oPt) is a flexible, needs-based and principled mechanism driven by field-level decisions based on assessed needs. The Fund is a pooled mechanism placed under the leadership of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator that focuses on life-saving and life-sustaining activities. Since 2007, the HF has received regular support from various donors, including Switzerland, which renews its support in line with its commitments to improving the effectiveness of humanitarian aid globally and in oPt.

The contribution builds on 3MDG’s recognized achievements in supporting poor and vulnerable women, children and people with HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Myanmar. The peace process opens avenues for 3MDG to working in conflict affected areas and reaching populations beyond the reach of the government. 3MDG is restructuring its pooled funding mechanism, in order to supporting Myanmar's health actors towards achieving universal health coverage.

Cities are the main destination for migrants worldwide. They play a crucial role in ensuring migrants’ social and economic inclusion and in leveraging migration as a source of innovation and prosperity. Switzerland aims at strengthening the evidence base on how to manage urban migration to maximize its development effects and at leveraging the voice and experience of cities in shaping effective migration policies. The project will involve Swiss cities and benefit from Swiss research expertise.

TUR STL Facilitating the PRotection and Resilience of Syrian Refugees in Istanbul

Around 500'000 Syrian refugees in Istanbul are exposed to multiple social and protection risks. In December 2015, the national NGO Support-to-Life (STL) with partial SDC funding set up a community center in Küçükçekmece, a populous industrial city district.The center provides protection and social support, promotes linkages to the host community and referral to state services with an increased focus on women, children and youth among the refugees.

Gaza Vulnerable Communities Development- GVCD (Phase 1)

In the first phase of this project, SDC will support selected Municipalities in the Gaza Strip to improve the delivery of services through the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF): small-scale infrastructure projects targeting vulnerable communities and capacity development activities to enhance the participation of these communities in local decision-making processes will be implemented. This project is aligned with Palestine National Policy Agenda (2017-2022), and Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the oPt (2015-2018).
