WFP’s Emergency Operation supports the health response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa by ensuring the basic food and nutrition needs of patients, families and communities affected by the virus; it is thus in line with Switzerland’s focus to mitigate secondary effects of the Ebola crisis. The contribution to WFP’s Special Operation supports all three areas of assistance, i.e. 1. Treatment and prevention operations to help contain the epidemic; 2. Strengthening to the local health systems; and 3. Mitigating the adverse secondary effects of the crisis, including food shortages.
