In Latvia an official Swiss representation safeguards Switzerland's various interests and provides transnational consular services. After Latvia regained its independence, the Cooperation with Eastern Europe Department of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation supported Latvia’s progress towards a social market economy and democracy. Since 2008, Switzerland has promoted the reduction of economic and social disparities through its contribution to the enlarged EU.
