Brazil: Employment
It is difficult to obtain a work permit due to the high unemployment rate and many restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Work pursuant to the Foreigners Statute.
Foreigners need a two-year work visa to access the Brazilian job market (specialised technicians, skilled workers, executives). Work visas can be extended for a further two years. Only entrepreneurs, the CEOs of Brazilian-registered companies or subsidiaries and the family members of Brazilian citizens are eligible for permanent work permits.
Work permit
In addition to holding a valid visa and a work permit, anyone seeking gainful employment needs to obtain a Carteira de Trabalho (work card) from the Ministry of Work and present this to their employer.
Applications for work visas must be submitted to Brazil's Ministry of Work.
