School system

For language-related reasons, public schools are often out of the question for children from Switzerland. Enrolment in an international school is recommended.

Swiss schools

The only international German- and French-language schools in Hong Kong are the German Swiss International School and the Lycée Français International. The prestigious German Swiss International School (GSIS) has a German and an English-speaking ‘stream’. The school year begins at the end of August / beginning of September and runs until the end of June. GSIS has 1,260 pupils (approx. 4% are Swiss children) and provides schooling at the kindergarten, primary, and lower/upper secondary levels. The German stream leads to the ‘Abitur’ (secondary school diploma) in Year 13, the English stream to the International Baccalaureate (IB).
