Dear visitors,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Embassy of Switzerland. As the first Swiss female ambassador appointed to India and Bhutan, I am delighted to be writing a new chapter in the Swiss-Indian and Swiss-Bhutanese success stories.
In 1948, Prime Minister Nehru chose Switzerland as the first friend of independent India. In a visionary treaty, our two countries promised each other ‘perpetual peace’ and ‘unalterable friendship’.
75 years later, Prime Minister Modi chose Switzerland, along with the European Free Trade Association, as the first European trade and economic partner. Signed in March 2024, the Trade and Economic Partnership (TEPA) sets out an auspicious Swiss-Indian trajectory – a win-win partnership that I am keen to promote based on three priorities: innovation, investment and environment. Particular attention I will pay to the inclusion of women, education (incl. vocational training) and sustainability.
I am also proud that, since 2023, the Embassy is the largest visa production centre in Switzerland's external network, setting all-time records. This demonstrates the remarkable development of people-to-people ties between the Alps and the Himalayas.
With Bhutan, Switzerland is privileged to enjoy a friendly relationship since 1985 and I look forward to celebrating its 40th anniversary next year. It is an opportunity to pursue our common diplomatic course, “from aid to trade”, and to contribute to the Kingdom’s high aspirations related to Gelephu Mindfulness City.
In India and Bhutan, the interests of Swiss citizens are promoted through a comprehensive diplomatic network. A “One Swiss team” ready to assist you. It is composed by the Embassy in New Delhi, the Consulates General in Mumbai and Bangalore, Honorary Consuls in Kolkata, Chennai and Thimphu, not forgetting the Swiss Business Hub, Swissnex, Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency as well as ProHelvetia.
Through its website, the Embassy endeavors to provide easy access to the information you seek. For any further information, do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to assist you.
