The Embassy of Switzerland in Tashkent expresses its deep concern about the violent clashes that recently occurred in the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan: we deeply deplore the loss of life and express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. Switzerland calls for an independent investigation into the events. We urge the Government of Uzbekistan to respect and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the right of freedom of expression and of freedom of assembly. We call on all sides to refrain from violence as well as incitement to violence. We would welcome for the state of emergency to end soon.
Since Uzbekistan’s independence the diplomatic relations between our two countries have evolved steadily. Switzerland remains committed to supporting Uzbekistan’s reform efforts.
