Swiss support to science and research in BiH

Science and Research have been traditional strongholds in Eastern Europe. The main programmes of Switzerland's support to science and research in Bosnia and Herzegovina and develop partnerships with institutions in Switzerland are:

  • Excellence Scholarships

The Swiss Government grants foreign researchers postgraduate scholarships at Swiss higher education institutions. These scholarships are offered on the basis of a fixed number of scholarships for some selected countries. Calls are usually published in August. This Embassy informs higher education institutions in BiH about ongoing calls and provides candidates on request with the application package. More information here.

  • SCOPES (Scientific co-operation between Eastern Europe and Switzerland)

The SCOPES programme is aimed at research groups and institutions in Switzerland and Eastern Europe which would like to launch a research co-operation. The programme will be discontinued at the end of the current programme phase (SCOPES 2013-2016). Nevertheless other opportunities for collaboration with Eastern European research partners will be offered.

More information here.

  • Regional Research Promotion Programme RRPP

The RRPP is aimed at fostering and promoting social science research in the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia). Social science research aids in the understanding of the specific needs for reform and in identifying the long-term implications of potential policy choices.

The programme operates within three inter-related pillars:

  1. FUNDING AND PROMOTING REGIONAL RESEARCH
  2. INTERNATIONALI SATION THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING AND NETWOR KING
  3. LINKING RESEARCH AND POLICYMAKING

More information about RRPP here.

Besides numerous projects and networks established (detailed information available on the official RRPP website), an additonal product of the third pillar was the launching of the PolicyHub web platform.

PolicyHub is a space for reflection on the connection between social research and public policy. The platform is open to all those who want to confront ideas and thoughts on a wider range of  topics, based on arguments and facts, and thus contribute to the deepening of knowledge in various domains .

Thus, for example, if you want to know more about modern trends in applying findings of behavioral economics in public policy, we recommend the following article:  „How can findings from psychology and behavioral economics improve research and implementation of public policies?"

All publications are available in both local and English language.
