Under the Pretty Good Film Festival campaign, the Embassy plans to organize a series of screenings of Swiss films (fiction, documentary, animation, short film), putting ECONOMY under spotlight. This year's lineup includes eight films: four documentaries, two narrative features and two animations.

Some 65 photos from the portfolio of late Swiss photojournalist Fernand Gigon (1908-1986) showcase the hardships as well as beauty of everyday life of ordinary Chinese in the 1950s. Traveling extensively across the country, Gigon was particularly impressed by the masses uniting to develop the social economy and find their own path to the modern world. He subsequently focused his lens on ordinary people who kept their pride and dignity under difficult conditions.
This lecture demonstrates vividly and comprehensively how the subtly imperatives like “be modest and be pure” constantly optimize body, soul and mind in our daily life in western societies.

Swiss artist Christophe Polese has been an electronic music producer since the early 1990s, nesting between the persistent electro dance and the dark backstage of the post-industrial civilization. At the decks or performing live, his footprints bring him to audiences either in the techno underworld of Geneva or clubs in Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, and elsewhere around the world.Polese also creates sonic installations, such as the interactive Zen garden Tactile and The Sonic Garden. His latest work is Axis Mundi, which is inspired by astronomical observatories in India. Following his fall residency at the Museum of Contemporary Art Pavilion Shanghai, Polese is now prepared to present Axis Mundi.

Closet Disco Queen comprises Jonathan Nido and Luc Hess, both of whom have a long touring history with different bands of great fame. The duo delivers powerful, dynamic psychedelic-kraut rock with a strong accent of the 1970s and progressive rock.They released their first album in June, 2015 before embarking on their debut European tour and performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. After releasing their new EP, the band is now ready for an all-encompassing China tour in 18 cities.
Supported by the Mercator Foundation Switzerland, Connecting Spaces Hong Kong – Zurich is proud to welcome the return of Transcultural Collaboration, a transcultural and cross-disciplinary graduate semester programme that considers the fundamental need to discuss and understand “globalization” and the questions and issues surrounding a chosen topic regarding. This year, the programme settled on the theme, Beyond Purity, and will take place between 12 September and 3 December 2016 at Connecting Space Hong Kong.

Installation artists Matthias Liechti from Switzerland and Liao Fei from China collaborate on topics interwoven with fundamental questions exploring truth and conventions in society. By questioning these topics, the artists invite visitors to develop a better understanding of their worlds. Liechti, who lives and works in Bern and Basel, is no stranger to China. Following his residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai in 2015, he has grown to be very fond of the city.

Winner of the ARD and Prague Spring International Music Competitions, virtuosic German bassoonist Matthias Rácz is currently Principal Bassoon of Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and Lucerne Festival Orchestra. He has performed with many renowned orchestras including Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Berliner Symphoniker, and has appeared as guest soloist at prestigious festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festivals.
