It has been 500 years since the reformer Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg. To celebrate this anniversary, festivities will take place all over Europe throughout the whole year. Debrecen played a key role in the Hungarian Reformation movement and was known as the Calvinistic Rome.

The four stained glass windows in the great hall of the university served as setting of the conference, as they do not only represent four traditional faculties of the university but also illustrate four partner countries in the Reformation, namely Zurich, Utrecht, Wittenberg and Geneva.

The conference took place in the presence of the highest representatives of the city of Debrecen, of the Reformed College and the three partner countries in the Reformation, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The Swiss Ambassador to Hungary, Peter Burkhard, highlighted the impact of the Reformation, which prevails until today. Areas were influenced, which impacted people regardless of their religion, which is why this anniversary shall be celebrated across the denominations. Furthermore, people are unified by the idea of freedom which is at the basis of the Reformation movement.
