U.S. citizens should not travel to Iran for any reason and should depart Iran immediately if they are there. U.S. citizens should take advantage of existing means to leave Iran and have a plan to depart that does not rely on U.S. government help. Please refer to the latest Department of State Security Alert on the U.S. Virtual Embassy Iran website.
In order to receive regular updates and alerts, please register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). You can also receive alerts from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs via WhatsApp.
All consular services provided by the Foreign Interests Section of the Embassy are suspended and all appointments are cancelled until further notice. The Embassy is not scheduling any new appointments at this time. Please check the website of the Embassy of Switzerland, Foreign Interests Section, regularly. As soon as the consular services will be available to the public again, it will be announced on the website. For inquiries on special citizens services such as the arrest or death in Iran of a U.S. citizen, please contact U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland at BernACS@state.gov .
Actions to Take:
- Leave Iran now. Have a plan for departing Iran that does not rely on U.S. government help.
- Keep your phone charged and maintain communication with family and friends to inform them of your status.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive information and alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
- Prepare a plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist .
- Follow the Department of State on Facebook , Twitter/X . Visit travel.state.gov and the U.S. Virtual Embassy Iran website.
- Check local media for breaking events. Be prepared to adjust your plans.
