Competition for journalists “Breaking silence on violence against women”

In the framework of the international campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” and the UN Secretary General’s campaign “UNiTE to end violence against women”, the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic in collaboration with Internews Network Kyrgyzstan is organizing a competition for journalists with a thematic focus on gender-based violence and harmful practices.

The competition features five categories: TV, radio, print media, internet outlets/blogs, and multimedia. For the 1st place a winner receives a KGS 35’000 prize (equivalent); for the 2d place – a KGS 25’000 prize (equivalent) and for the 3d place – a KGS 15’000 prize (equivalent) at a ceremony in Bishkek. All prizes will be awarded by the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, René Holenstein. 

The stories can be about all aspects and types of gender-based violence and should make a contribution to the public’s greater awareness and understanding of the issues related to gender-based violence and harmful practices. Each submission must demonstrate professionalism, meet international journalistic standards and demonstrate a striking insight into reporting on gender-based violence. The Embassy of Switzerland reserves the right not award prizes if submissions are of inadequate quality. 

All articles/stories should be in Russian, Kyrgyz or English languages and published/broadcasted between November 25, 2015 and December 10, 2015. 

The deadline is December 11, 2015. One journalist can provide up to 5 articles/stories for participation in the competition. 

All articles/stories should be submitted on a CD-ROM, indicating the name, media outlet, the date of publication/broadcasting and contact details of a submitting journalist (phone number, email) and brought to 21, Erkindik (11th floor), The Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic (“Competition for journalists”).
