Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Moldova (based in Kyiv) visited Chisinau in April 2024

The Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Moldova (based in Kyiv), Félix Baumann, held several meetings and discussions with Moldovan officials on 8 April 2024 on occasion of his visit to Chisinau. He was accompanied by Guido Beltrani, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova.

Félix Baumann and Guido Beltrani discussed the current state of the Transnistrian settlement process with the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian. They also discussed regional security issues as well as the management of current economic and energy challenges.

The Swiss Ambassador also met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the main recent achievements in the Moldovan-Swiss cooperation and to outline the future priorities, including: the ratification and entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EFTA Member States (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland) and its benefits for attracting investment and increasing trade between the two countries; the signing of a bilateral Agreement on Social Security; the holding of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries; and the strengthening of economic cooperation through the organisation of a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission Switzerland-Moldova later this year. 

Ambassador Félix Baumann and Guido Beltrani also met with Cristina Ceban, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation to discuss the latest developments in bilateral economic relations and the current situation and future perspectives regarding economic development and trade. 

They also discussed the current political situation in Moldova and how to further strengthen bilateral relations with the Head of the Presidential Administration, Adrian Balutel. 

Today's visit also included a meeting with Ana Groza, Executive Director of the Foreign Investors Association (FIA), who provided interesting insights on the economic potential of the country from the perspective of the private sector as well as an encounter with representatives from civil society organizations.
