Switzerland through its development cooperation has been engaged in Nepal for more than half a century. With the establishment of its Embassy in Nepal in August 2009, Switzerland’s assistance in Nepal continues to focus on state building, rural economy and social development through rural infrastructure, natural resources management and technical and vocational education. We are looking for young, ambitious Nepali National for the following position for 4 years fixed - term contract with possibility of extension:
Governance and Development Officer
Duty station: Province 1 (The incumbent may be required to extent support to Province 2)
Support in achieving the overarching outcome of SWISS strategy regarding the local state building in the focal districts. Take charge in the district for liaising with different authorities and stakeholders regarding assessment of the situation in the district for the safety and security of SDC staff.
Required Technical Competence
Bachelors degree in sociology, economics, public policy, commerce or relevant fields; at least 2years’ field experience in development work related with coordination and facilitation, assessment of safety and security and economic assessment; good understanding of bilateral development works in Nepal; in-depth understanding of current political status and security issues in Nepal; familiar with the functioning of the local government, line agencies of the Government of Nepal (GoN) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) sector; excellent command over written and spoken English and Nepali; good knowledge of computer and different software application
Required Methodological / Social Competence / Leadership Competence
Reputation of impartiality and wider acceptance by all stakeholders; able to work independently and willingness to work in a team and under time pressure; high mobility, ready to move when required; networking, negotiation and communication skills is an essential requirement; accept a wide spectrum of tasks; good understanding of the current events and national context; capable of adjusting into and promoting values of a multicultural team; sensitivity and experience in the areas of gender and social inclusion; take a lead role in the district in a crisis situation
