Closing conference of the solar project in Jasło

On 31st March, director Guido Beltrani and Sylwia Slomiak from the Swiss Contribution Office joined the closing conference of one of the solar energy projects financed under the Swiss Contribution to Poland. The project was implemented by the Association of the Wisloka River Basin Communes.

The conference, also attended by Swiss Ambassador Andrej Motyl and Polish deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin, was an occasion to discuss results of the project whose total value exceeded 94.6 million Polish zloty, out of which 75% was covered by Switzerland. Over 5 years of implementation, 8250 families in 20 municipalities in the Podkarpackie region began to use solar collectors for heating domestic water. Further 103 public utility buildings have been equipped with solar systems and additional 49 public buildings received photovoltaic systems.

Director Beltrani joined the panel discussion and Ms Sylwia Slomiak spoke about key factors of effective support for projects aimed to reduce pollution through promotion of renewable energy, including the role of cooperation between the donors and the beneficiaries as well as lessons-learnt sharing. On the occasion of the conference, Mr Guido Beltrani and Ms Sylwia Slomiak, joined by representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, also visited a number of residents who participated in the project and who now use solar energy to heat water in their homes.

As part of the Swiss Contribution to the enlarged European Union, Switzerland has supported Poland with 489 million Swiss francs for promoting economic growth and improving working conditions, improving social security, improving public safety, protecting the environment and strengthening civil society and partnerships between Switzerland and Poland. Approximately 115 million Swiss francs have been assigned to supporting energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in order to improve air quality, protect the environment and prevent diseases.

Swiss-Polish Cooperation Programme (Swiss Contribution) is a part of non-returnable financial aid programme for the enlarged European Union. Beneficiary countries include Poland and 11 other EU member states which joined on 1st May 2004. Switzerland's support is an expression of solidarity with new EU member states and lays ground for stable economic and political connections with them.
