South Sudan Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) Contribution 2015
The various humanitarian interventions in South Sudan require an excellent donor coordination and justifiable prioritization procedure. The Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) South Sudan, established in 2012, does not only provide timely and substantial financial provisions for humanitarian projects, it also brings together several important stakeholders involved in the humanitarian response in South Sudan. Contributing to the CHF means to strengthen this mechanism and enable financial support to the most critical interventions, but it also ensures the inclusion of SDC in decision making processes and facilitates a coordinated and strengthened advocacy within the international community.

Background |
After 18 months of hostilities in South Sudan, the political and economic situation remains fragile and the humanitarian outlook is grim. The conflict has devastated the lives of millions of South Sudanese and displaced more than 2.2 million people. Almost 8 million people in South Sudan are food insecure. 4.6 million will face acute hunger in the second half of 2015. |
Objectives |
Strengthen the humanitarian response in South Sudan by providing timely funding for projects addressing the most critical needs in the country. |
Target groups |
The allocation and disbursement of joint donor resources aim at meeting the most critical needs and target therefore the most vulnerable persons. |
Medium-term outcomes |
Projects directly addressing life-threatening needs and aiming at saving lives and alleviating suffering have been implemented. |
Results |
Expected results: Provision of life-saving emergency assistance for relevant projects within the cluster system. Results from previous phases: So far in 2015, the CHF has allocated over US$63 million to 97 projects, mostly in the conflict-affected states of Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile. The fund has enabled provision of nutrition and medical services, as well as access to clean water, latrine facilities and hygiene kits, and supported the provision of agricultural and veterinary inputs to conflict-affected people. |
