The president of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, is on an official working visit to Italy on 29 July 2014. He is set to meet with the Italian prime minister, Matteo Renzi, and the Italian foreign minister, Federica Mogherini, for talks.

After Germany and the United States, Italy is Switzerland's third most important trading partner. The two countries maintain close ties at all levels, including dialogue on taxation and agricultural issues. Other important topics are transport and energy policy, as well as infrastructure development.
