Baobab Maternity Hospital

Project completed

The procurement of EmONC and the construction and setup of the Baobab Maternity Hospital are meant to achieve concrete outputs such as strengthening the referral and reducing the high rate of maternal and neonatal mortality. In addition, CCBRT’s efficient management system will serve as model for other hospitals (e.g. St Francis) and health facilities. Similar to the CCBRT Disability Hospital, the new Baobab Maternity hospital will aim to make quality services accessible to women of poor background with an innovative and sustainable financing system. The project will link with Swiss support to St. Francis Hospital (strengthening management system), the Emergency Obstetric care project (increasing basic and emergency obstetric and new born care), as well as complementing the efforts of the health basket to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates. The proposed 4 year phase will focus first on a contribution to the construction and equipment of the hospital (2011-12), and then on the strengthening of the management by developing a performance based management system which will serve as a model for PPP on referral structures (eg. St. Francis and others).
