DCMA is a non-profit educational and cultural organization that provides music lessons and teaches traditional music instruments through its Certificate and Diploma programes and through private sessions. The main aim of the Academy is to promote the musical heritage of Zanzibar and the Dhow Countries whilst also introducing global musical genres in both education and performance. The institution continues to play a key role in teaching, promoting and preserving the traditional music of Zanzibar and Tanzania’s Mainland coastal area.

In the signed agreement, Switzerland committed to contribute a total of TZS 870 million (CHF 412`000) to DCMA for the next three years. The contribution aims at strengthening the music school in order to achieve its objectives as per its new strategic plan 2016-2021.

The Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania has been promoting and supporting various aspects of the Tanzanian culture since 2005. The current cultural programme at the Embassy aims at contributing to the emergence of a lively, inclusive and diversified art and culture scene that provides livelihood opportunities and promotes intercultural dialogue and exchange.
