Embassy of Switzerland Hosts Engaging Dialogue on Industrialisation

The Embassy of Switzerland organised a panel discussion on Industrialisation for Economic Transformation and Human Development in Dar es Salaam on 3 October.

The new Tanzania’s Five Year Development Plan (FYDP II) 2016-2021 has an ambitious agenda to promote industrialization in the country as a means of economic transformation and human development. The interactive dialogue aimed at fostering a better understanding of how industrialization can be achieved by realizing both economic transformation as well as human development. 

Panelists included Professor Adolf Mkenda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Gabriel Negatu, Regional Director African Development Bank, Dr. Samuel Nyantahe, Chairman of the Confederation of Tanzanian Industries and Mr. Charles Washoma, Country Director at Africapractice. Also present were representatives of other Embassies, multilateral agencies, local NGOs and institutions, and the private sector. 

Lessons learnt from the previous development plan and from other neighbouring countries, industrialization as a means of human development and current business environment in the country were among issues discussed at the event. The Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E Florence Tinguely Mattli gave opening remarks and the session was closed by Ms. Romana Tedeschi, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland.
