In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of addressing underfunded crisis in a more predictable manner. SDC funding to UNICEF emergency programmes in 10 underfunded emergency situations allows UNICEF to better plan its assistance programmes and proactively respond to situations as needed.

UNICEF was established in 1946. Today UNICEF works in over 160 countries and territories. UNICEF is mandated by the UN General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights (0-18 years), meet their basic needs, and expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. The country offices carry out the organization's mission through programs developed with host governments. Approximately 85%of its 11, 000 staff work in the countries of beneficiaries. |
