SolidarMed AIDS South East Africa SMART III 2011-2012
Project completed
Combating HIV/AIDS and providing universal access to quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment are part of the Goal 6 of the Millennium Development Goals. Decentralization and task shifting are means by which SMART contributes to access to HIV services. Task shifting from doctors to nurses in Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) initiation and follow-up, by training of nurses in these topics, has allowed the scale-up of ART services. There is both international and national focus on the co-management of TB/HIV. SMART III is intensively addressing this issue.
