Swiss contribution to multilateral peace-building – Phase 1 (2021-2023)

This project aims at increasing Switzerland’s contribution to global peace and sustainable development, through a strategic support to the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund and the World Bank State and Peacebuilding Fund. These funds critically contribute to enhance UN’s and WB’s engagement in the field of peacebuilding Switzerland’s engagement is reinforced by its strong thematic peace-humanitarian-development expertise and its solid field presence in countries where the funds are active.

Through knowledge sharing, joint learning and standards setting, the DAC contributes to enhance the coordination and coherence of international cooperation.

Enhance Regional Cooperation through the Western Balkans Fund

The Western Balkans Fund, established by the Governments of six Western Balkans countries, aims to reinforce peace, stability and sustainable development in the region. Through its core contribution, Switzerland will contribute to the Fund’s strengthened operations and institutional working modalities. The Fund promotes regional cultural cooperation, scientific exchanges, youth mobility for increased inter-regional ties.

OCHA Contribution to Humanitar-ian Fund oPt 2021 - 2023 (Phase 6)

The Humanitarian Fund (HF) in oPt is a flexible, needs-based and principled mechanism driven by field-level and evidence-based decisions. The HF is a pooled mechanism lead by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator through OCHA and focuses on lifesaving and emergency activities. Since 2007, the HF received regular support from various donors, including Switzerland, which renews its funding in line with its commitments to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian aid globally and in the oPt.

À travers ce programme, la Suisse vise à renforcer la protection et la fourniture de services publics, notamment pour les jeunes et les femmes, à promouvoir le droit du travail dans le contexte de la migration de main-d'oeuvre et à optimiser l'impact de la migration de main-d’oeuvre sur le plan humain et en matière de développement local.

Contribution to the UN-REDD Pro-gramme (single phase)

Forests are a central solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, their sustainable management is an imperative for the planet but also for millions of vulnerable people. The UN-REDD Programme is a key player in accelerating the implementation of appropriate policies and actions in tropical low and lower-middle income countries to reduce deforestation and restore forests. The contribution will allow for a strong Swiss engagement jointly with the Federal Office of the Environment, and for the capitalization of existing work of the four SDC domains on forest ecosystems and related livelihoods.

Skateistan

The Skateistan programme offers quality educational, sport and recreational opportunities to Afghan children and youth from low-income families, street working children, and children with disabilities. The programme facilitates the reintegration of out-of-school children into the formal public school system. Switzerland supports the Skateistan programme to contribute to create equitable, safe, and conducive learning opportunities especially for girls and marginalized children.

Ageing and Health in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In BiH, beyond modest pensions, no personal or social assistance is available for the elderly, who belong to the poorest population. The project supports the community engagement for the elderly and the introduction of home based care for the elderly in 10 municipalities. Home based care is provided by auxiliary nurses, trained and employed by the Red Cross of BiH in cooperation with local governments. The project is a contribution to the initiative of the Swiss Red Cross.

Die DEZA fördert den Zugang von Kulturschaffenden aus Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa zum Schweizer Kulturmarkt und internationalen beruflichen Netzwerken. Sie leistet einen finanziellen Beitrag an das Büro für Kulturkooperation „artlink“ für die Dokumentation, Information sowie die Vermitt-lung von Engagements von Künstler*innen aus dem Süden und Osten in der Schweiz. Zudem können Kulturveranstalter beim SüdKulturFonds Gesuche für Auftritte aus dem Süden und Osten einreichen.

Strengthening the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia

In partnership with the OSCE, Switzerland supports the Armenian Government in establishing a new Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC). This specialized body will be key in investigating and combatting corruption crimes. Through capacity-building activities and policy support, the ACC will be in a position to contribute to curb corruption, strengthen the Anti-Corruption system and the rule-of-law in the context of the Government’s Anti-Corruption Strategy 2019.

Hands4health Hand hygiene, water quality and sanitation in primary health care facilities and schools not connected to a functional water supply system

Current technologies and approaches to improve water, sanitation and hygiene are fragmented. Hands4health focuses on the development, testing, evaluation and scaling up of new water efficient hand washing technologies as well as on a holistic approach to hand hygiene, water quality and sanitation. To leave no one behind, the project works in primary health care facilities and schools not connected to a functional water supply system in in four target countries and beyond.

Covid-19 Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (single phase)

Established by The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF) addresses immediate impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic on rural people, prevents the erosion of results from past and ongoing operations, and puts in place building blocks to support post crisis recovery and long term resilience. As an IFAD member state, Switzerland joins international efforts with this time-bound response to prevent the health crisis from turning into a food crisis.
