Registering marriages and partnerships
Marriages contracted abroad under civil law are recognised in Switzerland and must be registered with the Swiss civil status authorities. Swiss nationals who get married abroad are required to register their marriage with the competent Swiss representation abroad. The documents must be submitted to the diplomatic representation together with an apostille. The latter will forward the declaration to Switzerland free of charge.

Registered partnerships
Same-sex marriage in Thailand became legal on 23 January 2025, with the Marriage Equality Act coming into force, making Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to take this step. The law allows same-sex couples to register their marriage and grants them the same legal rights as heterosexual couples, including the right to adopt children, inherit property, and enjoy equal rights regarding consent to healthcare.
