Swiss citizens are entitled to a passport and an identity card. The current biometric passports contain a chip on which your fingerprints and an image of your face are stored electronically. All Swiss travel documents are produced in Switzerland.
Passport and identity card
You can apply online for your passport and identity card. Once your application is reviewed, you receive an invitation to record your biometric data at the competent Swiss representation. Be sure to check the expiry date on your current passport and identity card and leave enough time to order new ones.
Consulate General of Switzerland in Sydney – Mobile Biometric Passport Station in Australia
Since the introduction of the biometric passport in 2013, applicants must appear in person to record their biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature of the applicant).
A mobile biometric passport station provides Swiss citizens with an opportunity to appear locally in the main city of their state for the collection of the biometric data for ordering a new passport or an identity card.
The biometric data is not stored and has to be given, every time you apply for a new passport.
The sessions for the mobile biometric passport station will be directly communicated by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Sydney to their Swiss community by email approx. 2–3 months before the intended visits.
Therefore it is important to keep your contact details with the Consulate in Sydney, especially your email address, accurate at all times. You can communicate your address/email change to sydney.cs@eda.admin.ch or register it yourself directly on the FDFA online desk.
