The Embassy follows the developments of Thailand's, Cambodia's and Lao PDR's domestic and foreign policies, and informs the Swiss authorities on political decisions, trends and issues which are of interest and relevance to Switzerland. Moreover, the Embassy represents Swiss interests by liaising with officials of the host countries on matters such as trade, investment, environment, co-operation with international organisations and human rights, education, among others.
The success of such exchanges relies on the fostering of positive relationships with governmental, non-governmental and other institutions in the host country. An important tool are bilateral meetings, which take place between the Embassy of Switzerland and Ministries of the host countries. Working and official visits by Swiss politicians and high level officials to Thailand, Cambodia and Lao PDR, as well as by their counterparts to Switzerland also provide a space for discussions. Official contacts form an integral part of the promotion and protection of Swiss interests and the common understandings between Switzerland and the host countries.
